These pigs are rolled in silicon carbide grit while their coating is still wet. They are used to abrade hard deposits inside pipelines. Some grit may detach during operation, so users should consider whether this is acceptable for their application. Models are available in medium and heavy densities. Their effective operating range is shorter than that of most pigs, typically only a few miles.
